ART PROJECTS:
LES CONSTELLATIONS DYNAMIQUES
Live multimedia performance
The Dynamic Constellations is an original interdisciplinary performance that weaves together live video mixing, choreographic presence, and multi-screen projection in a visually rich and spiritually resonant experience. At its core, the work is a constellation of impressions—fragments of travel, emotion, intuition, and cultural resonance—filtered through a poetic lens. Inspired by nomadic explorations in Brazil, Asia, and North America, the project uses dynamic editing and layered iconography to reflect on how we are drawn—sometimes inexplicably—to others, to places, to moments of transformation.
SIX MIL ANTENNAS
360 degree dome film
Six Mil Antennas is an immersive 360-degree film co-created by Johnny Ranger and Manuel Chantre, comissioned and specifically designed for the Satosphère dome at Montréal's Société des arts technologiques (SAT). Premiering during the Festival du nouveau cinéma, this pioneering work was the first medium-length film crafted for the dome's unique environment. The film transports audiences into a futuristic, psychedelic, and non-linear universe, where characters navigate through abstract landscapes, exploring interconnected states of personal, social, and political consciousness. The film expanded the visual and narrative possibilities of what could be achieved within the then-emerging medium of 360° immersive dome experiences.
THE DARK GLOW
Video Installation
The Dark Glow is a piece that feels closer to slow moving photography than cinema. It is like an observation of the subtle effects of rain drops, pearl like particles, calligraphic silhouettes and states of beings viewed through some macro or ultra definition lens. They are visual tableaux of mysterious movements of inner and outer landscapes of outbreaks and tempest.
MEMORY
MUSIC VIDEO project
This video offers a meditative journey through layered gestures, shifting light, and elemental textures. Figures move through liminal environments—part nature, part dreamscape—blurring the lines between body and landscape, thought and sensation. Rather than following a narrative, the piece invites a quiet state of attention. Its slow rhythm and visual softness evoke a subtle mysticism, where each movement feels like a quiet invocation, and the visible world becomes one layer among many. A work to be felt more than interpreted, it gently opens space for presence, stillness, and inner resonance.
SACATAR BAHIA BRAZIL
Artist Residency
6 weeks Residency in the region of Bahia Brazil. The Sacatar institutes allows artists from all over the world to create art in their facilities and encourage collaborations between residents & locals. This second residency renewed a past collaboration with the artist Olek and dancers from Rosangela Silvestre's school in Salvador to create a series of photographic works and video installation.
E.D.M.L. EUROPEAN MOBILE DOME LAB
Multiple residencies in Dome accross Europe and Canada
Project E/M/D/L, the European Mobile Dome Lab for Artistic Research, was a collaborative project that developed an international network for artists and scientists to explore the artistic potential of the fulldome medium. The initiative fostered intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue to create immersive media artworks, document new artistic grammars for the fulldome environment, and produce new aesthetics and technological paradigms.
RÉFLEXIONS.. RÉFLECTIONS
360 degree film
The creation of a singular panoramic image—expanding the horizontal surface of a standard screen tenfold—forces a total reimagining of linear narrative space. Drawing formal inspiration from Asian handscrolls, Johnny Ranger embrace a stylized landscape and surrealist elegance to evoke a contemplative vision of Rio de Janeiro.
Johnny Ranger and musician Manuel Chantre dissolve traditional plots in favor of an open narrativity. They establish a language of rhythms and impressions: a series of living tableaux that reveal reality as a multidimensional field of simultaneous events.
POETIC THEORIES OF INTERCONNECTIONS
Contemporary Shadow play theater
Developed at the end of the 90s at a time when digital media was only beginning to enter the performing arts, the project approached technology not as spectacle but as a poetic language. Handmade shadows, projected video, and live performers shared the same space, dissolving the boundary between physical presence and mediated image. Through a series of visual tableaux, the piece blended traditional shadow play with emerging multimedia tools, creating a hybrid form of “theatre of images” where light, bodies, and projections interacted on stage. The performance unfolded less as a narrative than as a constellation of moments—sometimes playful, sometimes mysterious—inviting the audience into a multisensory landscape shaped by rhythm, movement, and visual transformation.
